Touraine, between Blois and Tours, is a rich and well-kniown wine growing country. The following wines ‘appellations Controlées’ of Touraine are situated on either side of the Loire Valley.

The zones of the Apellations d’Origines Controlées of Touraine: A.O.C Touraine; Touraine-Mesland; Cheverny; Cour-Cheverny; Touraine-Amboise; Vouvray; Crémant du Loire and situated on either bank of the Loire Valley.

Chaumont sur Loire is the ideal place to discover the vineyards, to visit the cellars and to taste the wines. The wines based on different vines (Gamay, Cabernet, Cot, Sauvignon, Pineau; Romorantin) will fill you with enthusiasm.

   The A.O.C. Touraine covering 8000 ha. Are situated between the Loire and the Cher. The different ‘terroirs’ of this wine-growing region vary according to the property of the soil, the situation and the exposure and the know-how of the wine-growers. The vines used for the red are Gamay, Cabernet and Cot and together for the rosés Gamay and for the white, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pineau de la Loire.

   A.O.C Touraine-Mesland    Produces red wine by assembling Gamay, Cabernay and Cot, the rosés with Gamay and the white wine based on ‘Chenin Blanc’ which might be completed with Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The ‘terroir’ consists of 200 ha. of clay with flints covered with sand.

  Touraine- Amboise  Is situated on either bank on 200 ha. The reds and rosés use the vines Touraine and the white Chenin ( Pineau de la Loire) .

   A.O.C.
Vouvray   On the right bank of the Loire covering 2000 ha. Is reputed for its white wine based on Chenin. Vouvray can be dry, semi-dry, mellow, still, bubbly or sparkling.

  Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny  Produces light red wine from vines of Gamay Cabernet Franc ; Cabernet- Sauvignon; Cot and Pineau Noir either in association or converted separately. The rosés use the same vines as the reds plus the Pineau d’Aunis and Pinot Gris. Cheverny is chiefly known for the white wines based on Chenin, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Arbois and Romorantin cultivated almost exclusively in this appellation controlée.
